CoMaps, the free and open source navigation app built on OpenStreetMap, just dropped a new stable release with a couple of welcome additions.
What’s new
On Android, the app now shows speed limits while navigating, a feature many users had been asking for. 3D buildings have also been turned off in Android Auto mode to keep the map cleaner on the road.
On iOS, you can now set CoMaps as your default maps app, so map links open directly in it instead of Apple Maps. CarPlay gets the same 3D building cleanup as Android Auto.
Across the board, OpenStreetMap data has been updated to February 7, search now supports Scandinavian characters (æ, ø, å), and the location arrow moves more smoothly again when you’re not actively navigating.
The update is already live on both stores.
